The Do’s and the Don'ts of the ID Badges

So, you are going to begin wearing the ID badge, either you have landed to your new job which requires wearing them most of the time, or the present job has just started implementing them. In any way it is thought, here are some of the Do’s and the Don’ts of the ID badges at work.

DO - Ask for the appropriate picture set-up

The number one and the usual complaint in an ID badge is the appearance of the photo that did not come out that good in the eyes of the user, and this is really fair, since it is really hard to see your worst photo exposed in your ID. If it is possible, the room should be properly lit with the three-point lighting, for cases that there is no natural light coming in. You can suggest that photo shoot to take during that so called “golden hour”, right before sunset or right after sunrise, because that is when the light quality is at its best.

DON’T – Attempt to look like someone else

ID cards or identification is all about you and it is written in your name. To that extend, it would not do you any benefits to try something new that is completely not yours, like changing your hair style or modifying your makeup during the photo shoot day. Basically, you want to evade those chats down the line behind you when somebody else glances at your photo with an observation of…“it does not look like it’s you!”

DO - Keep the ID card with you at all time

The ID card is for security reason, and for the security purposes to those that is around you, so be sure that the ID is with you most of the times that you are in the workplace.

DON’T - Keep it bagging inside the pocket

As stated, if you keep your card at all times, be sure that it is affixed to you somehow, and it can be with a badge reel, a lanyard, or the magnetic badge holder. Nobody wants to lose their ID card, and by allowing it to loose in your purse or pocket is just inviting that scenario.

DO - Be proud of the ID badge

Be proud!, Go ahead, shout it out by showing them through your ID cards that you are a part of the professional team, where an employer cares about the safety of their employees and that your photo looks wonderful, so you are proud to wear it all the time while in the workplace. This is what ID badges should make, to give that sense of belonging and to generate security.

DON’T – Never post it on the Social Media

There is this trend now known as the “badge bragging”, where the people that have just landed in a new job are posting their new badge to their social media account. Your intention is good and being proud of where you are now is just fine. What will not be fine and will result to some danger is that, there are some “bad boys” out there that will take advantage of that information and can do some harm to you and worse to the company and some other people that they can hit too. So be very careful!
